MIND-boost your energy & strength by slowing down
Mental wellbeing is part of our physical fitness. Regular movement can help reduce stress hormones, improve sleep and boost overall mood, but it is the balance between effort and recovery that really makes the difference. Taking time to slow down, breathe and reset allows your body and mind to properly absorb the benefits of the work you are putting in.
For many of us balancing busy, high-pressure lives, training can become another thing to push through. It is easy to think more is better, but your body does not get stronger during the workout itself, it adapts afterwards. Recovery is when muscles repair, your nervous system resets and your energy systems rebuild. Without that, you can feel constantly fatigued, plateau in progress or increase your risk of injury.
This is exactly how elite athletes train. It is not just about pushing harder, but recovering smarter. Tennis player, Tim Henman, built yoga into his routine to support mobility and focus, while athletes like Keely Hodgkinson prioritise recovery, strength and conditioning alongside their track work to perform at their best.
This is where using the space around you becomes part of your routine, not an afterthought. Moving from a RIDE or BURN class into the spa for heat and cold exposure can help kickstart recovery, reduce muscle soreness and bring your body back into balance more quickly. It is also a powerful way to shift out of a high-intensity state and give your mind a moment to slow down.
Did you know:
Recovery is when your body adapts and gets stronger, not during the workout itself
Alternating heat and cold can support circulation and help reduce post-exercise soreness
Intense training without proper recovery can increase stress levels rather than reduce them
Even 10–15 minutes of intentional recovery can improve how you feel and perform the next day
We asked our coaches what their favourite way to recover was:
“A big walk/hike with no phone!” - Lily
“A day where I consciously slow down - no ‘active rest days’ but it usually consists of a walk to get my fav pastry and a coffee on my own or with a friend” - Charlotte
“Walking with my doggie under the trees” - Lana
“Jumping in a river"!” - Arron
“Going for a run” - Hetty
